Shahid Bhagat Singh Govt. College is located in Kotkapura, a historic city of the district of Faridkot. The city Kotkapura takes its name from its founder, Nawab Kapur Singh, and the word 'kot' meaning a small fort- literally the 'Fort of Kapura.'

The college was established in 1982 by the Municipal Council of Kotkapura and was taken over by the Punjab Government in 1997. It is situated on Bathinda Road, just one kilometer away from Kotkapura Bus Stand. Apart from Kotkapura city, students from many surrounding villages come to this college.

The College at present have sufficient infrastructure and academic facilities for the purpose of education. Newly constructed library, 8 reconstructed & 2 new, with 12 already available classrooms. College has a large outdoor stadium, 2 computer labs, and other practical labs of Psychology, Geography, Home Science, and Physical Education. College also has two other practical subjects, such as music, vocal & instrument which is a salient feature of the college.
